Joining the dots between Funk, Afro-beat, Jazz-Rock and more, original London based band The Boom Yeh have become renowned for their compelling live performances, high level musicianship and for digging deeper than your average groove collective.
Led by guitarist/composer Jon Speedy in collaboration with saxophonist/horn arranger Ian Bailey, core musicians include drummer
Jimmy Norden (Alice Russell/LTJ Bukem) bass player Matteo Grassi (Afrik Bawuntu/Gizelle Smith) trombone player Nick Mills
(Mark Ronson/The Roots) baritone saxophonist Paul Silver (The Fontanas/Yaaba Funk) and percussionist Jozef Berk (Awalé/Lazy Habits).
The debut album Reverberations To Constellations released in October 2013 received positive reviews, international acclaim and
airplay on BBC Radio 6, Jazz FM and various other international radio networks. Darkstar the new 4 track E.P will be released May 5th 2015 on Unit 8 Records (Vinyl/Download).
Inspired by classic groove rhythm sections of the 60’s/70’s including The Meters and The Headhunters, the band’s horn led sound counterpoints artists such as Tower Of Power, Parliament and Youngblood Brass Band, interspersed with West African poly-rhythms, late 70’s jazz-rock-fusion and the contemporary funk of D’Angelo and Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor.
